U19S players treated to All-Star masterclass
The Hong Kong women’s U19s cricket team will head for an international tournament in Thailand next month with an extra spring in their step – after a coaching session from a quartet of the game’s greats.
The teenagers were given a masterclass by Australian legend Justin Langer, England bowler Matthew Hoggard, former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming and South African allrounder Tyron Henderson.
“It’s great having these international cricketers come to our training, said team manager Angela Kwan during the coaching session at Mission Road Cricket Ground in Mong Kok.
“It’s a thrill for the girls to meet their cricket idols and to have the opportunity to play with them and learn from them.
“We’re playing in an Asian tournament in Chiangmai in Thailand from December 11 to 24 and this is a fantastic way to prepare for that tour.”
The young Hong Kong players were given fielding practice, put through their bowling paces and then had the thrill of facing fast bowler Hoggard – 248 wickets in 67 test matches – in the nets.
Langer, Hoggard, Fleming and Henderson will be in the All-Stars team taking part in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes at the Kowloon Cricket Club from 8-9 November.
The All-Stars have been drawn in the Sobers group alongside defending champions Sri Lanka, Australia and hosts Hong Kong.
The Bradman Group will be contested by India, Pakistan, England and 2006 Sixes champions South Africa.
Tickets for the 2008 Sixes – priced at $780 for adults and $450 for children – are on sale at the following locations:
